Thousands of motorists are driving without insurance after falling for multimillion-pound scams being promoted on Google, Instagram and Twitter.
Unwitting drivers are clicking on fake adverts and taking out cheap car cover from rogue firms that is invalid or does not exist. Victims are losing £1,209 on average.
How not to get caught out:
• If it looks too good to be true, it probably is
• Always use the official website of a reputable firm or comparison website when buying insurance or making a claim
• Avoid policies sold via social media, or those advertised in motor repair shops, pubs and newsagents
